It is found in volcanic gases and natural gases in trace amount but it occurs abundantly in a combined state. In the combined form, it is an important constituent of water, acid, alkali and many organic compounds of vegetables and animal products. The chief source of hydrogen is water in which its amount is double in comparison to oxygen.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Hydrogen gas is commonly produced in laboratories by reacting dilute sulfuric acid or hydrochloric acid with zinc granules. Granulated zinc is preferred for this process because it often contains a small amount of copper, which acts as a catalyst, speeding up the chemical reaction without being directly involved in it. This reaction is exothermic, meaning it releases heat.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>General Format: Metal + Dilute Acid \u2192 Salt of Metal &amp; Acid + Hydrogen<br>With Hydrochloric Acid: Zn(s) + 2HCl(aq) \u2192 ZnCl<sub>2<\/sub>(aq) + H<sub>2<\/sub>(g)<br>With Sulphuric Acid: Zn(s) + H2SO<sub>4<\/sub>(aq) \u2192 ZnSO<sub>4<\/sub>(aq) + H<sub>2<\/sub>(g)<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large is-resized\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/pokharelsugam.com.np\/wp-content\/uploads\/2022\/12\/oxygen-laboratory-1024x516.jpeg\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-131\" style=\"width:513px;height:259px\"\/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">PROCEDURE<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Take a clean dry woulff bottle with zinc granulate.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Fit cork with thistle funnel and delivery tube.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Cover another end of delivery tube by beehive shelf in water trough.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Filled water trough with two third of water.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Take a gas jar and filled with water and cover by glass plate without producing bubble at top.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Pour about 30 ml of dilute sulphuric acid or hydrochloric acid through thistle funnel. Thistle funnel must be dipped in dilute acid.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Wait about 1 minutes to escape air bubble from delivery tube for complete removal of air from conical flask.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Then invert gas jar with glass plate over the beehive shelf under water in water trough.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Finally remove glass plate.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Then hydrogen gas is collected in gas jar by downward displacement of water.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">OBSERVATION<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Hydrogen gas is collected by downward displacement of water.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>When burning \ud83d\udd25 wood piece is inserted it extinguished and hydrogen is burn with pop sound.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Wulff bottle is heated during reaction<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">RESULT<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Hydrogen gas extinguish burring material.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>It is lighter than air<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>It burn with oxygen by producing pop sound<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">CONCLUSION<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<p>Hydrogen gas is prepared in laboratory by displacing hydrogen of acid by zinc metal.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h3 class=\"wp-block-heading\">PRECAUTION<\/h3>\n\n\n\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li>Impure zinc should be used instead of pure.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>Concentrated sulphuric acid should not be used<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>The end of thistle funnel must be under the acid in Woulfe&#8217;s bottle and delivery tube must be above the acid .<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>The apparatus should be clean and made airtight.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>The bee-hive shelf should be under the water level in the pneumatic trough.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li>The experiment should be conducted far away from fire.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>Watch Video in YouTube:<\/strong> <a href=\"https:\/\/youtu.be\/O3iKx9-ePNA?si=HjPh2StjlTCdIeuR\" data-type=\"link\" data-id=\"https:\/\/youtu.be\/O3iKx9-ePNA?si=HjPh2StjlTCdIeuR\">https:\/\/youtu.be\/O3iKx9-ePNA?si=HjPh2StjlTCdIeuR<\/a><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>MATERIAL REQUIRED Wolff Bottle, thistle funnel and delivery tube fitted with cork, pneumatic trough, beehive shelf, gas jar, Dilute Sulphuric acid or Hydrochloric acid THEORY Hydrogen is a reactive element and thus does not occur much in the free state.
